About

Mission: Fighting Granulosa Cell Tumor Ovarian Cancer with Information, Advocacy, Collaboration, Community, and Research

Background

StopGCT was founded in 2012 by David Silon and Laura Ericson to help change outcomes for women with Granulosa Cell Tumor, a rare form of Ovarian Cancer. David has been helping GCT patients since 2003.

We are a survivor-led organization registered as a California Nonprofit Corporation (#C3512672) and US-based 501(c)3 Public Charity (#90-0899458).

We collaborate with patients, physicians and institutions to improve care, provide advocacy, support translational medication use in rare disease, and fund novel research.

Medical Advocacy

StopGCT provides advocacy for women with all stages of GCT, including patients requiring palliative care. Our advocacy helps GCT patients and caregivers navigate the many technical and emotional challenges associated with care and treatment for ovarian cancer.

Patient Education

We educate patients about GCT Ovarian Cancer so that they can become strong self-advocates. It can be hard to get past the initial fear and uncertainty associated with an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Understanding and managing GCT is a long-term effort.

Case Review and Coordination

StopGCT will review your case, help you collect your medical records, and help you coordinate with healthcare providers. We also help with physician referrals and 2nd opinions.

Caregiver Support

StopGCT provides support and education for caregivers of those with GCT. Fighting Ovarian Cancer is not only difficult for patients, but also for partners, family and friends. It takes a village, and we have over 20 years of first-hand caregiving experience!

Patient Connect

We connect women with GCT to other survivors. It can be very helpful (and hopeful) to have contact with peers who know what it’s like to live long-term with GCT.

Patients/Advocates Training Students

StopGCT participates in training programs for future healthcare professionals to help improve understanding of, and sensitivity for, GCT. We also give public presentations at conferences and are available to talk about GCT, rare disease and ovarian cancer-related advocacy at gatherings and meetings. If you need a speaker, please contact us!

Social Media

We post about GCT- and cancer-related topics on Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram. Look for “stopgct” on your favorite social media platform, follow us and join the discussion! See the footer below for our social media icons/links.
